The FanMail Box is a bimonthly subscription box “for lady geeks, by lady geeks”. I was recently gifted this box from a friend (this one originally shipped in February but can still be purchased in their store here while it’s in stock). Each month has a theme, and this one is Medieval Mayhem.
The items were:
- An ARC copy of Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman
- Tote that matches the FanMail box
- A House Stark Direwolf comb
- Chainmail nail wraps from Espionage Cosmetics
- Xena: Warrior Princess necklace with a laser-engraved wooden pendant designed by the Gorgonist and produced by Juniper and Ivy Designs (exclusive)
- Merlin zippered pouch designed by Winnie Gong (exclusive)
- An information booklet about the items, along with a neat guide to movies, show seasons, books and comics coming out over the next few months
Overall I’m quite happy with this theme. My favorite item is the necklace; it’s a good length and has a design that is subtle enough to not scream “GEEK WEAR!” while also being definitely recognizeable as Xena’s weaponry when you look more closely. I haven’t had a chance to sit down with the book yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I already nabbed one of the chainmail nail wrap sets in Espionage’s latest mystery bag, but I’m always happy to have more. The comb might see use as a separator for braiding, but I’m personally more of a brush girl. It seems to be mostly decorative anyway. I’m not quite sure what I’ll do with the Merlin pouch; it’s very cute, though, so I’m sure I’ll think of something.
The next box will be “Reigning Royals” in June; if you order now, you can still get in on it. From the website:
The queen is dead. Long live the queen!
In June, we pledge our allegiance to the royals who skillfully lead rebellions, escape those who seek to usurp them, and rule with kind hearts and brilliant minds.
FanMail is $21.99 plus shipping and goes out every other month.
